Now that The Summer of Creative Chemistry is winding to a close, I find myself with a desk full of backgrounds, all waiting patiently for their focal images.
Besides a lot of very nifty techniques, one of the things I learned this summer is that backgrounds are my favorite part of card-making. I had a lot of fun practicing the techniques with no expectation of needing to come up with a finished card using any of them. Now that I am looking to create finished projects, I realize that coming up with a wowza focal image is often more, well, challenging for me. Not as much fun. Backgrounds are really my thing.
That was a useful thing to figure out about myself. It won't help me feel any less clueless about selecting focal images, but it will help me become less exasperated with myself when it happens. ;)!

Your bg is gorgeous...delicate and filled with subtlety. I really like the swath of deli paper stamped with letters...very interesting. I agree with you that backgrounds are fun to make and experiment with...there is definitely a freedom there. I like your choice here of a bold orange butterfly for your main image. As for focal points maybe you need more images from which to choose ...you're rolling your eyes now I'm sure (since you just purged a bunch of stamps)...This card is very pretty...looking forward to more fabulous bgs ;)

It sounds as if you had a great time doing the class. Some time I would like to try one - but I feel I'd need enough in my budget to buy stuff I don't have, as well as pay for the class. I totally agree, making backgrounds is a lot of fun, and a box filled with background pieces is a treasure box. I love the vivid contrast of your butterfly against the beautiful soft greens in the background. I was delighted to see a gallery notification pop up in my emails earlier - I know I'm getting them on a slight hit and miss system right now and I don't always remember to check galleries otherwise.

This is a fascinating background and I enjoyed reading about your summer discovery. Such depth and interest you have accomplished in these bg's. And it's grown you quite a stash.
